The plans to restore the patency of waterways and restore the navigability of the Odra and the Vistula river was mentioned regularly in the last year on the occasion of the meetings concerning the maritime industry and transport. In this context, a key role is attributed to Poland’s accession to the European Agreement on Main Inland Waterways of International Importance, known as AGN Agreement.
A very important step was taken on 15th December 2016 in order to accomplish these many important goals – the Sejm adopted (unanimously, with a number of 429 votes) the ratification law, which is likely to be a subject of the Senate’s debate.
The purpose of the AGN Agreement is to coordinate actions connected with developing and constructing the inland waterways network which were deemed as roads of international importance.
Thus far, the AGN Agreement was signed by 17 countries – such as France, Greece, Germany and Italy.
The Act shall come into force after 14 days from its promulgation.
